【一】

李白乘舟将欲行，Li Bai wants to travel by boat,

忽闻岸上踏歌声。suddenly he hears someone/something treading

桃花潭水深千尺，peach blossom and? deep water are 3000m deep

不及汪伦送我情。too late/ inferior to Wang Lun give me presents.

【二】

李白乘舟将欲行，Li Bai will leave by boat,

忽闻岸上踏歌声。suddenly he hears someone singing beating time with foots.

桃花潭水深千尺，(桃花潭 is a name of lake) the water of the lake is very deep(千、万 means \"extremely\" in old chinese poems)

不及汪伦送我情。(but) it is not deeper than the 情 of Wang Lun.

a lake can be described by \"deep\" and same to \"情\". so 李白 said: this lake is very very deep but this kind of \"deep\" cant match the \"deep\" of 情 of Wang Lun.

the day before 李白's leaving day, Wang Lun told 李白 that he wouldn't see him away tomorrow. but Wang Lun did it on that day! so this is a surprise for 李白. so 李白 used the word \"忽\"----it means that it was a surprise.

送我情：

i dont know how to translate this. in china, u know that when a visitor leaves, the host should accompany the visitor to a place and see him away. if this visitor has a good relationship with this

host, the host gonna accompany him longer. for example, when my good friend leave from my house, i will accompany him to go to a bus station. why do i do this? because there is the friendship between my friend and me. i accompany him = 我送他 so Wang Lun 送 李白。this kind of 情 is called 送我(之)情。

the relationship between chinese people usually use 情. for example, u r very thirsty but u cant find any water. u ask a stranger to help u, then this man gives u some water. this can be called 滴水(之)情 or 杯水(之)情。

anyway, when someone does something to someone, we could use 情.

so Wang Lun 送 李白 is 送李白(之)情。
