The Teaching Plan for Puzzles in Geography By Weng Lili from Yuhang High School Teaching objectives:

1. Students will be able to know about the history of the formation of the UK.

2. Students will be able to have knowledge of the three parts of England and their characteristics.

3. Students will be able to learn about the history and culture of London.

4. Students will be able to know about and try to use the following words and

expressions: consist of, be linked to, get connected etc. Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Pre-reading

1. Show the Ss some pictures about the UK.

2. Show three pictures to lead in the three names: the UK, England and Great Britain and

lead in the puzzle.

Step 2 Reading

1. Para2:

a. Ask the Ss to find out how Para.2 is organized.

b. Ask the Ss to find out the different times.

c. Ask the Ss to find out the change of the names.

d. Show the Ss the change of the flags.

e. Ask the Ss to find out the location of each part of the UK on the map and the full name of the UK.

f. Ask the Ss to retell the formation of the UK together.

2. Para.3

Ask the Ss to find out the areas where the parts of the UK work together or work separately.

Ask the Ss to find out the three zones of England and their characteristics.

4.Para.5

Ask the Ss to find out the importance of London and its invaders.

5.Ask the Ss to pay attention to the topic of the text not only about puzzles in geography but also about puzzles in history.

Step 3 Post-reading

Ask the Ss to make up a dialogue: Suppose that your friend is puzzled about the three names: the UK, England and Great Britain and you try to explain the differences among them. Step 4 Assignment

Ask the Ss to write a summary of the formation of the UK.
